The Indiana Wind Working Group (IWWG) held its first meeting on November 7, 2005 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Nearly 60 participants attended the meeting including representatives from utilities, wind developers, U.S. Department of Energy, state and local government agencies, land owners, county economic development professionals, university professors and many others. The group plans to meet 3-4 times per year to discuss the challenges and benefits of wind energy development in Indiana. Recent improvements in wind turbine technology and in the understanding of the wind resource in Indiana have greatly increased the viability of both small- and large-scale wind energy development in the state.

There are many developers looking at the state of Indiana. Most of the developers say that a Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) will be necessary to get projects on the ground. An RPS bill, House Bill 1379, was put forth during the 114th General Assembly and didn't pass but was recommended to a summer study project for consideration in the next legislative session.
