The Department of Energy's Wind Program and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) published wind resource maps for the state New Jersey. The maps are presented in two formats. The first shows the annual wind power estimates at 50 meters using NREL's standard classification system for utility-scale applications in relation to transmission lines and major cities. The second shows the annual wind speed estimates at 30 meters, which is useful for identifying areas that hold promise for small wind turbine applications.
The highest resource areas are found along the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay coastal areas, and on the ridges of western and northwestern New Jersey. These ridge tops may be subject to high wind shear and particular locations could have higher wind power class values at 80 meters than shown on the 50-meter map.
Note: Wind resource at a micro level can vary significantly; therefore, you should get a professional evaluation of your specific area of interest.
