Here you will find Wind Powering America success stories.
9/7/2010; Montana Hundreds of Montana students will have a new tool to learn about renewable energy when they return to school. Wind turbines were installed at six K-12 schools across the state this summer as part of the Wind powering America's Wind for Schools project. 8/4/2010 The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)-certified clean energy systems are supplying ice-bound research bases at the bottom of the world with critical power during the frigid darkness of the Antarctic winter. 8/3/2010; Utah Plenty of kudos mark the release of the aptly titled, award-winning documentary Wind Uprising, a half-hour film that tells the story of the journey to develop Utah's first commercial wind project. 8/3/2010; Ohio Maintaining an adequate supply chain has been identified as a barrier to wind energy development, yet Ohio has one of the best supply chains in the country when it comes to wind. 7/12/2010; Idaho Stephanie Lively, a mechanical engineering major at Boise State University, became involved with Wind Powering America's Wind for Schools project as a wind research assistant. She is now employed by REpower as a site assessment engineer in Denver, Colorado. 7/7/2010; Pocatello, Idaho An obstacle to the 2009 Wind for Schools project turbine installation at Pocatello Community Charter School has been removed for some future small wind turbine installations in the community, thanks to an ordinance revision prompted in part by the school's experience. 6/9/2010; Flagstaff, Arizona Andy Kruse of Southwest Windpower talks about mass production for small wind turbines, who is buying these systems, and what lies ahead for the small wind industry. 5/17/2010; Kansas Mechanical engineering graduate student from Wind Powering America's Wind Applications Center at Kansas State University placed third in the graduate student poster session at the IEEE Power & Energy Society's Transmission & Distribution 2010 Conference. 5/10/2010; Sterling, Kansas Ever since Brianna went to the Lincoln/Ellsworth county line and saw the turbines for the first time two years ago, they have completely fascinated her. She's been studying the wind turbine at her school, recording the data, and can't wait to present her project to the community. 5/6/2010; Milford, Utah Read the story and watch the video of how the "Wind Kids" helped bring a major wind project to their town of Milford, Utah — revitalizing the local economy and providing power to tens of thousands of households in Southern California. 5/4/2010; Girard, Kansas Targeting students in elementary school through college, participants in Wind for Schools' projects will get a leg up on the competition when competing for green jobs when they graduate. 4/28/2010; Arkansas The Anemometer Loan Program helps homeowners with the process of determining whether their site would be good for small wind, and it also trains the future workforce of renewable energy technicians. 4/28/2010; Arkansas The tall-tower study and the resulting data could encourage future commercial wind energy development in a state that currently has none. 4/28/2010; North Carolina The Appalachian State University student body voted for a $10 annual fee per student to fund renewable energy projects on campus, which resulted in the installation of a 100-kW wind turbine. 4/28/2010; Holbrook, Arizona The project contributed approximately $110,000,000 to Arizona's economy and will result in annual tax payments of $440,000. 4/28/2010; New Jersey The wind turbines are expected to generate 224,000 kWh per year, providing about 80% of the electricity needs for the municipal office building and water treatment plant while reducing annual carbon emissions by 162 tons. 4/28/2010; Idaho Project team members launched a video on YouTube that documents the wind turbine installation process. 4/27/2010; Kansas A recent Kansas State University graduate with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, became involved with Wind Powering America's Wind for Schools project while taking a wind engineering course. He is now employed by the Kansas Corporation Commission as an energy engineer. 4/27/2010; Indiana Stakeholders, including government officials and wind developers, use the wind resource maps to determine whether and how wind energy can benefit their states and territories and to identify promising project locations. 4/19/2010; Utah Three courses trained 32 "wind pioneers" last year. The diverse bunch included stay-at-home moms, biologists, electrical contractors, local government representatives, and an associate dean of a local college. 4/9/2010; Walsh, Colorado Walsh School District will use a wind turbine to teach students about renewable energy. Teachers are looking forward to using the new 2.4-kilowatt wind turbine that sits behind the high school as a tool to teach students about wind energy technology.
