Discussion
In December 2011, Wind Powering America's Virginia Wind for Schools team announced the installation of a turbine at Henley Middle School. The turbine is part of a Renewable Energy Resource Center at the school that also features 182 roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panels and six solar thermal collectors use the sun's energy to heat water. Jonathan Bartlett (Wind Powering America national director at the U.S. Department of Energy), Remy Pangle (state facilitator at the Virginia Center for Wind Energy at James Madison University), and Jonathan Miles (director of the Virginia Center for Wind Energy) attended the dedication ceremony. Funding for the project came from an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act-funded grant of $211,000 from the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy. The school district contributed an additional $35,000.
