Minnesota West Community & Technical College. "AES Wind Generation Donates Turbine Blade to Minnesota West."
Minnesota West Community & Technical College. "Wind Energy Training Tower."
Minnesota West Community & Technical College offers a Windsmith certificate, a Wind Energy Mechanic diploma, and a Wind Energy Technology Associate in Applied Science degree.
Minnesota West's Canby campus has a 35-kW, Vestas V15 wind turbine that is uses as a teaching tool for its Wind Energy Technology Program as well as a supplement power source for the campus. The wind turbine's lattice tower stands 110 feet tall with 25-foot blades. It is projected to produce 15% - 20% of the needed power for the Canby Campus. The turbine will provide the students with hands-on learning experiences such as monitoring the turbine's output with in-house Scada controls, safety training, electrical troubleshooting, and much more.
Minnesota West worked closely with the City of Canby to gain approval from the City Zoning Commission and the City Council to erect the turbine. This project would not have been possible without the continued support and direction from Energy Maintenance Service, LLC, Otter Tail Power Company, VeraSun Energy, and Sebesta Blomberg Engineering.
Minnesota West also has a 76-foot, Zond 750 wind turbine blade and a base section of a tower from a Zond 750 donated by AES Wind Generation.
