Department of Energy and Department of the Interior Announce Major Offshore Wind Strategy

On February 7, 2011, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu announced major components of a coordinated strategic plan to accelerate the development of offshore wind energy in U.S. waters. The joint National Offshore Wind Strategy: Creating an Offshore Wind Industry in the United States is the first-ever interagency plan for offshore wind energy, and it demonstrates a strong federal commitment to developing the nation's offshore wind energy resources in a way that reduces conflict with other ocean uses and resources. The plan focuses on two major objectives: reducing the cost of offshore wind energy and reducing the timeline for deploying offshore wind systems.
