Black Nubble (Maine Mountain Power)

Redington Township, Town of Carrabasset, ME

United States

(45.024/-70.4745)

Developer: Endless Energy

Owner/Operator: Endless Energy

Size: 54000 kW

Type: Windfarm

Status: Seeking Permits

Discussion:

The Black Nubble Wind Project has returned to the siting and permitting process. After Maine's Land Use Regulation Commission denied issuing permits for two configurations of the proposed project in 2007 and 2008, the developer again sought to alter the project in hopes of increasing local support and successfully navigating the permitting process. Most recently, Endless Energy proposed that Redington Township be annexed by the town of Carrabassett Valley. Annexation would smooth the process for siting and allow for the town and area ratepayers to benefit from the wind energy produced at a reduced cost. Annexation would require a favorable vote from both the Maine State Legislature and residents of the Town of Carrabassett Valley.
