Awareness

Two kinds of policy tools are used to raise awareness of renewable energy sources, including wind power, and their benefits.

Source Disclosure Requirements

Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island (PDF 15 KB) Download Adobe Reader, and Vermont require retail electricity suppliers to disclose to their regulators and the general public the resource mix of generation facilities used in their portfolios and the associated emission. In principle, such disclosure would facilitate comparison shopping by consumers interested in voluntary purchases of wind or other environmentally preferable power sources.

Educational Activities

Educational activities in support of voluntary consumer decisions designed to support investment in wind energy facilities and other renewable energy sources through increased awareness of renewable energy benefits and options available to consumers are in place in:

  • Connecticut

Smartpower Connecticut is a non-profit marketing campaign that is leading the effort to promote clean energy resources such as wind power.

  • Maine

Clean Energy Maine is a statewide campaign to introduce Mainers to clean electricity from renewable resources.

  • Massachusetts

  • Rhode Island
