Minnesota Municipal Power Agency Energy Education ProgramDate: 6/30/2010Location: Minneapolis, MNThe Minnesota Municipal Power Agency created the Energy Education program to encourage community involvement and to support wind energy education to its community schools. Energy Education provides regional and local wind energy information as well as teaching tools for educators. The wind energy information includes historical and current wind energy generation, a current wind map, and live turbine information from each Minnesota Municipal Power Agency community hometown turbine. Teaching tools for educators includes lesson plans, activities, and traveling wind turbine kits.
The Energy Education program is an extension of the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency's Hometown WindPower program. Hometown WindPower locates turbines within each member community and at the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency's Faribault Energy Park. The Hometown WindPower turbines are located in: Anoka, Arlington, Brownton, Buffalo, Chaska, East Grand Forks, Faribault, Le Sueur, North St. Paul, Olivia, Shakopee and Winthrop. The power from the turbines goes directly into each member's power distribution system. View live turbine data for each city. Each Hometown WindPower turbine has a capacity of 160 kilowatts. Hometown WindPower gives all Minnesota Municipal Power Agency member communities the chance to become a part of the solution to the state's renewable energy needs.
