The Maine Wind Working Group is intended to help grow the entire wind business sector in Maine, by educating stakeholder groups on wind energy technology and products, economics, policies, prospects and challenges. The Wind Working Group was created in 2008 with help from a grant from the federal Department of Energy. Wind Working Group activities include general public education and technical outreach, targeted stakeholder outreach, hosting wind workshops, and developing state specific literature. The Wind Working Group will hold quarterly meetings and periodic conferences, provide expert speakers, technical and financial advice, and create other resources like wind potential maps, case studies and a Web site. The Wind Working Group plans to allow interested parties who attend opportunities to sign up for email notices of upcoming events as well as to lay out what they see as the top 5 priorities the group should be working on. This information will be used to help decide on the subject matter of future workshops and included on the Wind Working Group Web site.

On January 13, 2009, the Maine Wind Working Group held a kickoff event where Governor Baldacci announced the small wind energy projects rebate program.
