Missouri based developer Wind Capital Group, John Deere Wind Energy, and the Missouri Rural Electric Cooperatives announced their plans to construct a 50-megawatt wind energy project. When completed in late 2006, the project will consist of 24 turbines and will produce enough power for up to 30,000 homes. The project's developer, Mr. Tom Carnahan, and the Director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Mr. Doyle Childers, stressed the role of the high resolution wind maps in the process of moving from idea to workable development project.
The electricity from the wind project will be purchased by Springfield, Mo.-based Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. Farmers in the project area will have the opportunity to receive annual lease payments and the area could also see job creation, local investment, tourism and an expanded tax base.
