Growing South Carolina Wind: Expanding Supply Chain in the Palmetto State

Learn about economic development and supply chain opportunities in the wind energy industry in South Carolina. This public forum will feature presentations by Dr. Nick Rigas, renewable energy director at Clemson University Restoration Institute, and Jeff Anthony, director of business development at the American Wind Energy Association, with opening remarks by Merle Johnson, program manager of global business development at Charleston Regional Development Alliance. Topics will include the status of wind energy development in South Carolina, wind industry trends, commercialization of new and advanced technologies, retooling and diversifying existing companies, and workforce development. The event is free and open to the public.

Southeast Regional Offshore Wind Power Symposium

Clemson University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and North Carolina State University hosted the Southeast Regional Offshore Wind Power Symposium that attracted 140 participants with standing room only. The Symposium brought together a group of experts and speakers to discuss the potential of offshore wind power in the Southeastern United States.

The Southeast Regional Offshore Wind Power Symposium intended to:

  • Increase awareness on the offshore wind potential in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.
  • Educate key policy makers on the environmental and economic benefits of offshore wind power generation.
  • Identify key political and social issues that must be resolved to establish offshore wind power.
  • Develop a roadmap with a framework that will promote offshore wind power development in the southeastern coast.
  • Promote educational interest in offshore wind power for undergraduate and graduate students in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Participants asked for a second annual symposium and representatives from Virginia would like to be included. The symposium's Web site contains a proceedings, the attendee list, pictures from the symposium, and press articles.
