Michigan Wind Energy Resource Zone Board
Date: 1/2/2009
Location: MI
This information was last updated on January 02, 2009
The board's responsibilities include consulting with local units of government in the study of:
- wind energy production potential
- the viability of wind as a source of commercial energy generation in Michigan, and
- the availability of land in Michigan for potential use by wind energy systems.
The board is also required to conduct modeling and other studies related to wind energy, including studying existing wind energy systems, estimating additional wind energy development, and average annual wind speeds.
Please see the Web site for meetings, reports, and more information.
Washtenaw County, Michigan Wind Project
Date: 8/12/2008
Location: MI
Contact: Joshua Long, Washtenaw County Energy Coordinator
This information was last updated on August 12, 2008
In recognition of the heavy dependence on fossil fuels and associated escalating costs and environmental impacts, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution in April 2006 directing the Department of Planning and Environment to test the wind resources in the County and examine the feasibility of providing wind generated electricity for county residents and businesses. To help ensure project success, Washtenaw County formed a working partnership with the City of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan to form the current project team.
Wind Energy Delphi Project
Location: MI
This information was last updated on August 09, 2011
Michigan is proceeding to develop renewable energy policies and developers have begun evaluating potential locations for utility scale wind farms. Local stakeholders have voiced concerns over how wind energy will be implemented. Stakeholders cite that wind turbines need a larger buffer between wind turbines and neighboring properties. The size of the buffer areas is subject to heated debate in Michigan, so the Energy Office of Michigan asked Lawrence Technological University to conduct a Delphi Inquiry. Please visit the Web site to learn more about the discussion and methodology.
